Georgian sumo wrestler Teimuraz Djugheli (Gagamaru) was promoted to the sekitori status

Georgian sumo wrestler Teimuraz Djugheli, known among sumo wrestlers with a nickname- Gagamaru was promoted to the sekitori status on September 30, 2009. He is the third Georgian to reach the sekitori status along with Levan Tsaguria (Kokkai) and Levan Gorgadze (Tochinoshin),which is an important achievement in the history of Georgian wrestling.  

Gagamaru held a press conference at the Kise-beya facilities in Tokyo. Gagamaru’s first thoughts were of his late father, who tragically died  in a car accident three years ago.

A 22 year-old Gagamaru first entered sumo wrestling four years ago and soon reached the Makushita division. During his last August-September tournaments, Gagamaru clinched his promotion with a perfect 7-0 record and was promoted to the sekitori status.
