On February 9, 2017 the Ambassador of Georgia, Dr. Levan Tsintsadze visited Hakuba and held a meeting with Mayor, Mr. Masatake Shimokawa. Hakuba is mountain resort which is as popular in summer as in winter.

On February 4, 2017 In "Akasaka Civic Center" was held opening ceremony of the Exhibition of three writing systems of Georgian alphabet and illustrations from Shota Rustaveli’s “Knight in the Panther Skin” by Mikhai Zichy. In the frames of opening ceremony Professor Hirotake Maeda from "Tokyo Metroplitan University" held a presentation about Georgian Alphabet and “Knight in the Panther Skin”.

Incorporated Administrative Agency "Japan Mint" released a collection set containing Japanese coins and Georgian 20 Tetri coin.

The set was presented at the Embassy of Georgia to Japan on January 16, 2017.

10.01.2017, Tbilisi - ​According to the Russian and Abkhaz sources, on January 3, 2017, the Russian occupation forces in Abkhazia region destroyed the multi-layered archeological and architectural monument – the VIII-IX century and late Middle Ages settlement site, tombs, ruins of the church as well as the Polish graveyard of mid-XX century – while preparing the ground for a military range in Tsebelda, Gulripshi District.

On January 10, Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe at the official residence hosted a gathering of Japanese-speaking Ambassadors accredited in Japan. Ambassador of Georgia Dr. Levan Tsintsadze was among the participants of the event together with his colleagues (in total 24 countries).

The UNESCO inscribed "Living culture of three writing systems of the Georgian alphabet" on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This decision was made at the eleventh session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage supported the nomination submitted by Georgia and decided that the nomination fully satisfies all criteria under the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
