President Salome Zourabichvili met with President of the Japanese Olympic Committee

President Salome Zourabichvili met with Yamashita Yasuhiro, President of the Japanese Olympic Committee, as part of her working visit to Japan.
Their discussion was focused on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games and on the Georgia-Japan sports relations.
The meeting touched upon the expectation that the 2020 Olympic Games will help in extending relations between different countries. President Zourabichvili underlined that Georgian sumo wrestler Levan Gorgadze, also known as Tochinoshin, who competes in Japan, is a clear example of how successful athletes can bring countries closer together.
Mr. Yasuhiro stated that the Olympic Committee will do its best to assist the Georgian team and competing at its best level during the 2020 Olympic Games, underlining the importance of the Georgian athletes’ participation.
“The fact that the President is visiting Japan is of paramount importance, which we will definitely be taking into account, and we will try to deepen the relations between Georgian and Japanese athletes even more. The Georgian and Japanese peoples will come closer through sports, and that is our main goal,” said Yamashita Yasuhiro.
Mr. Yasuhiro briefed President Zourabichvili on the preparatory works for the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games, including the construction of the new Olympic Stadium of Tokyo, which will be officially inaugurated in a few months.
